It’s always best to capture as much of the concept in-camera as possible, before we step into a pixel playground. We love the opportunity to bring unique thinking into the work -old fashion craft drives along nicely with new technology.

We are known internationally for our creative conceptual advertising and design based work. We also successfully use my high octane visual IQ and beautiful lifestyle imagery to bring stories alive for various corporate, car, telecommunications, banking, retail and rural clients.

Speaking of which, our content has appeared in numerous international publications, including Graphis Design (USA), Communication Arts (USA), Plus 61 (Australia), Australia Creative publications. Our website has been featured in the Taschen “1000 Best Web Sites of the World” (USA). Our work has supported numerous New Zealand Design Best Awards winners - the work for the Lego brand was awarded Bronze and Silver at Cannes advertising awards.

Dean Zillwood

Photographer/Director

My first memories of any creativeness was with a pencil - drawing. I spent hours drawing people, cars and objects. I remember discovering Escher’s drawings and that changed things for me. Looking back I think I have always enjoyed function and form. Add to that my curiousness about what makes us as people tick - the what we do, and, why we do it - type of curious.

Inspiration is what I think we are all after - to be inspired and to feel things. Not just work for work’s sake. It’s certainly a goal of mine to create beautiful work and make it interesting.

With photography, it’s all about creating a moment that tells the narrative - with motion it’s all about telling the narrative created through moments. For me, the name Creative Machine says what I stand for. In other words - inspire (Creative) and work hard (Machine).

I originally studied Photography at the Wellington School of Design where I received Distinction. I have a Bachelor of Applied Arts and hold a Master in Photography from the New Zealand Institution of Professional Photographers. I am also a member of the New Zealand Advertising and Illustrative Photographers Association. I have worked as a part time lecturer at Massey and Whitireia Universities.
